Folks who were expecting WhatsApp to solve the problem of Archived chats automatically unarchiving will be disappointed to hear that it will not be fixed anytime soon.
WhatsApp was working on a feature called Vacation Mode that will stop automatic unarchiving of chats but according to Wabetainfo the development of the feature was abandoned.
What happens with Archived chats
WhatsApp allows users to hide chats from the chats screen by archiving them. A user only needs to tap/press and hold a chat they want to hide and then they tap an icon with an arrow pointing downwards that pops up on the top of their screens. The chat will then disappear from the chat screen.
But what is irritating is that when a new message is received from the archived chat, it automatically unarchives bringing the chat to the chat screen.
Vacation mode was going to solve this by not allowing the archived chat to automatically unarchive and come to the chat screen when a new message is received. But Wabetainfo confirmed with a reply to a Reddit users that it’s not going to happen anymore, at least anytime soon.
Reddit user post
Hello. I was wondering when I would be able to mute notifications from archived chats. I do not want an archived chat to become unarchived every time I receive a new notification on said chat. Is there any update regarding a this feature? It seems long overdue from what I’ve searched online
Vacation mode was a feature under development for iOS and Android some months ago. The development had been abandoned.
